A new high-tech theatre is about to open to give tourists a deeper look at life in the Italian capital in the ancient past.

The 30-minute 3D show uses 60, 000 virtual characters, or avatars, to help tourists get a taste of what Roman life was probably like in 310 AD.

The successor of the very successful Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will be titled Call of Duty: World at War. The game is set in the Pacific theatre during World War II. Call of Duty: World at War has been developed by Treyarch, the same studio that developed Call of Duty 2/3. Treyarch uses the engine of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare so the graphics will be top-notch.

Gibbs Technologies Ltd, recently unveiled a prototype of the first commercially viable high-speed amphibian Quadbike/All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) - Quadski. It's a cross between a jetski and a quad-bike and is capable of traveling up to 50mph (72 kph) on both land and water. Thanks to the four retractable wheels the Quadski switches between water and land effortlessly.

International scientists celebrated the successful start of a huge particle-smashing machine aiming to recreate the conditions of the "Big Bang".

Scientists at CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research near Geneva, fired two beams of proton particles in opposite directions around Large Hadron Collider's (LHC) 27km-long (17 miles) ring, buried below the Swiss-French border.

Car maker Daimler and utility company RWE plan to open recharging stations for electric autos in Berlin from the end of 2009.

Daimler's planning a limited production run of their Smart minicar, the Smart Electrodrive, which runs on lithium-ion batteries, which can be "refuelled" at around 500 recharging stations.

The Japan round of the international competition kicked off on Sunday in Yokohama, Japan.

With about 80 teams participating at the preliminaries, Japanese students of all ages were testing their skills on science.

Israeli company develops remote-controlled suit that enables paraplegics to walk.

ReWalk, Argo Medical Technologies' robotic suit, allows people who are paralysed below the waist to stand, walk, climb and descend stairs.

The system consists of motorised leg supports, body sensors, a computerised control box and rechargeable batteries.

The players ranged in age from 6 to 62 and competed in the Pokemon trading card game World Championships in several divisions.

German autobmobile association ADAC drives cars with a good safety rating into walls at 80 km/h (50mph) - with shocking results.

Usual crash tests are conducted at 64 kilometres, or around 40 miles, an hour, and the ADAC says driving just 16 kilometres an hour faster makes a crash much more dangerous for the passengers.

California-based JaJah is launching a new Mandarin translation service which aims to remove the language barrier for visitors to China.

The IP telephony company is partnering with IBM to rollout 'JaJah.Babel' ahead of the Beijing Olympics.
